ABOUT THE
EDINFORMATICS SCIENCE CHALLENGE
Intermediate school is designed to provide a strong foundation
for students in science in order to prepare them for the high
school science sequence consisting of biology, chemistry and physics.
Although there is some controversy that students are being over-tested
on a yearly basis, an eighth grade science test should remain
a cornerstone in science assessment.
We
have designed a two part -end of year- 8th grade science
test that accesses both "Knowledge and Concepts" (Part
I), and "Reasoning and Analysis Skills" (part II). Most
of the science material used for the test is consistent with current
intermediate school textbooks. Several questions require more
rigorous mathematics that is contained within the newly initiated
Common
Core Standards.
The
Common Core Standards have not yet completed a science curriculum
(see: Core Standards home
page for updates), but we expect that material contained in
these two tests will be included in that curriculum.
Both
parts of the test allow the student to answer the questions online,
and then have the test graded. Students can view a graph that
shows how previous students who took the test performed on each
question. A correct answer sheet is provided, and help pages
with information pertaining to each question are available.
