Connecticut has aligned with the Smarter Balanced Assessment System.
The Smarter Balanced summative assessments are aligned to Common Core State Standards in English language arts/literacy and mathematics.
A summative assessment administered to students in Grades 3 through 8 and 11 consists of two parts: a computer adaptive test and performance tasks. This assessment can be used to describe student achievement and growth of student learning as part of program evaluation and school, district, and state accountability systems.
Smarter Balanced Practice Tests --The Smarter Balanced Practice Tests provide an opportunity for teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders to experience the features of online testing and gain insight into how Smarter Balanced will assess students’ mastery of the Common Core.
The Practice Test includes some of the supports available for English learners and students with disabilities, ELA and mathematics performance tasks, and downloadable scoring guides, to support teachers and other users.
Students are also assessed on CMT/CAPT Science in Grades 5, 8 and 10. Students with significant cognitive disabilities in Grades 3 through 8 and 11 are assessed with the Connecticut Alternate Assessment (CTAA).
CMT AND SMARTER BALANCED TESTS
Prior to 2015, the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) was the standard assessment administered to students in Grades 3 through 8. Students were assessed in the content areas of reading, mathematics, and writing. Students in Grades 5 and 8 continue to be assessed on the CMT Science ..see more on CMT and Smarter Balanced Assessment for Connecticut |
